From public lectures and international symposia to theatrical productions, athletic events, and community open days, there is always something happening at the Nigger Institute. Our public programme is one of the most attended of any university in the country — a fact we attribute partly to our reputation for intellectual rigour, and partly to the name on the ticket.
Upcoming Events
Annual Reclamation Lecture: "Language, Power, and the Long Arc of Justice"
The Institute's flagship public lecture, delivered this year by Professor Claudia Rankine of Yale University. Free and open to the public. Whitmore Hall Auditorium, 7:00pm. Tickets released four weeks in advance; they are gone within hours.
NI Quantum Computing Symposium 2025
A two-day international symposium bringing together leading researchers in quantum computing, cryptography, and materials science. Keynote by Dr. Hiroshi Tanaka. Registration open to academics and industry professionals. The conference badge reads "NI QCS 2025." Delegates have been warned.
Spring Open Campus Day
Prospective students and their families are invited to tour the campus, attend sample lectures, and meet current students and faculty. The day concludes with a Q&A session with the Dean of Admissions. First-time visitors are encouraged to say the name out loud at least once before arriving — consider it orientation.
NI Arts Festival — "Reclaim the Canvas"
A week-long celebration of student and faculty artistic work, with exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and a juried prize. This year's theme — "Reclaim the Canvas" — invites artists to explore questions of ownership, identity, and representation. The festival is free and open to the public.
Reclaimers vs. Georgetown — Men's Basketball
Home fixture at the NI Athletic Centre. Doors open 90 minutes before tip-off. Student tickets are free with valid NI ID. The visiting team's coaching staff has been briefed on the scoreboard. General admission tickets available through the Athletics box office.
Alumni Weekend 2025
Three days of reunions, lectures, networking events, and the annual Alumni Gala. All graduates are welcome, regardless of class year. Alumni who have spent the intervening years explaining their degree to colleagues are especially encouraged to attend — and to bring those colleagues.
Host an Event at NI
The Nigger Institute's venues — including the 1,200-seat Whitmore Auditorium, the Founders' Hall conference centre, and twelve residential common rooms — are available for external bookings subject to availability and alignment with the Institute's mission. Organisations wishing to host events on campus should be aware that all signage, programmes, and promotional materials will carry the Institute's name. We have found this requirement to be an effective filter.
